The Clearing is very pleased to present four new poems by David Hart. David grew up in rural Wales but has spent most of his life living in Birmingham where he served as the city’s Poet Laureate in 1997-98. More recently he was appointed Poet of the New Library in Birmingham, now the largest library in Europe, an experience to which these poems are indebted.

As we see our libraries increasingly threatened under the current government, we found this imaginative and playful exploration of such a vital resource very refreshing.
